New Toyota Corolla Plant In Mississippi Adds Nearly 2,000 Jobs
In mid-November Toyota opened Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Mississippi (TMMMS), a Corolla production plant in Blue Springs, Mississippi that will add nearly 2,000 jobs. The $800 million plant will be Toyota’s 14th in North America and will produce 150,000 Corolla’s every year. The opening couldn’t come at a better time. In one of the harshest economic climates in history and with the holidays approaching, TMMMS will bring joy and opportunity to many families in Mississippi.
“Today is a great day for Blue Springs and the entire State of Mississippi. Toyota chose Mississippi for its dedicated, talented workforce, and I know they will enjoy great success at their newest facility. We are proud to be the home of Toyota, and we look forward to a long and successful relationship with our newest corporate partner.” – Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour
TMMMS is located in just outside of Tupelo, Mississippi and is a great leap for Toyota as they continue to focus on producing vehicles where they will be sold. In major cities throughout the US like Chicago, Corolla is one of the most popular vehicles. In fact, the Corolla is the best-selling car in the world of all time. Soon enough, when you’re in Oak Park, used Corollas will be mostly produced in America. All Corolla engines for the TMMMS plant are produced in West Virginia and the cylinder blocks and heads are produced in Missouri and Tennessee.
“Building vehicles where we sell them helps us be even closer to our customers. The U.S. market remains a key to Toyota’s overall success, and Toyota Mississippi will play an important role for us here.” – Akio Toyoda, Toyota Motor Company President
